My Summer Reading List 2022

Happy June! Even though it is not officially summer yet, I am putting together my summer reading list. The books that make the list are pure brain candy~no heavy topics, no political messaging, no dieting, just fun beach/mountain reads. It may sound shallow but don’t we have enough pain, agony and drama in the world? Reading is a bit of an escape for me and summer reading is purely for fun.

How Do I Select my reading list?

First, I have favorite authors and I always check to see if they have any new books or if I have missed any publications. Next, I google Summer Reading List 2022 and read through article after article, until something strikes my fancy. And then I make a list like you will see here today.

Gone are the days where I will painfully plow through a book just to get to the last page. I can tell early on if I like the writing style of the author and if the subject matter is worth the investment of my time. Summer reading is just that~it is supposed to be effortless and fun, at least for me.

Some of My Favorite Authors

Amor Towles is the author of the New York Times bestselling novels, A Gentleman in Moscow and Rules of Civility. His third novel, The Lincoln Highway was released last fall and it is definitely a must read this summer.

If you loved The Girl on the Train and Into the Water, Paula Hawkin’s new book, A Slow Fire Burning looks to be another mystery and thriller winner for this author.

You could spend all summer just reading all of Rhys Bowen’s books. I love how she writes and faithfully she delights us twice a year with new novels. Last year I read The Venice Sketchbook which I loved. If you haven’t read any of Rhys Bowen’s books, I suggest you try Above the Bay of Angels, where yours truly is a character in the book! Her next book, Where the Skies Begin, will be released in August and can be pre-ordered here.

Lucy Foley has a new book out called the Book of Lost and Found. From the review comments, there is travel to lush Corsica, luminous Paris and lively New York, involving family secrets and love. Sounds good to me!

If she stays away from political posturing, I do enjoy most of Elin Hilderbrand’s books. The setting is typically in Nantucket and since we vacationed there last year, I enjoy the references. Her latest book, The Hotel Nantucket will be released June 14. I recently read Golden Girl and truly enjoyed it.

Barbara Hinske is a dear friend and neighbor. She owns a beautiful historic home up the street and her books are as lovely as she is. Her latest book I haven’t read yet, and it’s on my list this summer. The second book in her Guiding Emily series is The Unexpected Path. In town here, we have a wonderful facility for empowering the blind and Barbara spent a great deal of time there, researching and learning about the challenges of vision loss. If you haven’t read the first book in this series, Guiding Emily, I encourage you to do so.

New Authors

When I find an author I love, I devour all their books. During the summer, I do like to try a few new authors, in hopes of being pleasantly surprised. Here are a few new ones for the list this year.

Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid has many accolades from various resources. Entertaining and unpredictable are a few descriptive words about this novel. So I will give it a try and let you know how it goes.

Now this one has piqued my interest, Our Little Lies by Sue Watson. Who can turn down an “absolutely gripping psychological thriller with a brilliant twist”?

This book is about treasure maps and hunts through the red rocks of Utah, which sound intriguing to me. Something Wilder by Christina Lauren is the Editor’s Pick on Amazon. Great reviews and it sounds like a bit of fun too.
