The dining room has a set of beautiful windows to the north and east. We added the wainscoting to match the existing fireplace mantle. The antique crystal chandelier was moved from our previous home. Originally this fixture used candles and we had it professionally electrified. This is the only room in the house with plaster cove ceilings.
The fireplace surround has historic Batchelder tiles and a deep mantel which is a pleasure to decorate. Original Canadian beech floors have been preserved. The deep burgundy/mauve Oriental rug is a family heirloom.
We host many dinner parties with friends and family here, especially Christmas dinner. Original heating vents with detailed brass covers are still used as a heating/cooling method for this room.
Upholstered chairs are comfortable and the slipcovers are easily laundered when spills occur. The table is made larger with a separate leaf insert.
With lovely Eastern morning light, the windows have a view to the front yard.
This is another room that is fun to decorate for the holidays. With tones of blush, forest green and burgundy, these non-traditional Christmas colors compliments the large Oriental rug.
