Our 2024 Holiday Home Tour

There are some years that I go all out in decorating the house and property. However, this year, my goal is to create that holiday magic but in a simple way. After such a busy year, I envisioned lots of greens, garland, candles and velvet ribbon. Nearly every aspect of this year’s holiday decor incorporate those elements. I hope you enjoy a glimpse into our 2024 holiday home.

Front Entry

With a scaled down approach, the front entrance is festive, yet uncluttered. The large wreath on the front door sports a burgundy 2″ velvet ribbon and brass bells.

For the first time, we add fresh cedar garland over the front door. Burgundy bows are affixed at the corners to complement the ribbon on the wreath. Warm white lights illuminate the entry at night, making it look even more welcoming.

My beach cruiser bicycle sits on the front porch with a vintage wicker basket filled with faux burgundy chrysanthemums. I use these Hobby Lobby flowers frequently as they add a nice punch of color.

The two holiday planters by the front door hold an evergreen shrub, red and white cyclamen, variegated leaf, and white 4 petal flowering plants. These are a Costco find and keep the look clean and simple. Mr. Bunny gets his holiday ribbon too.

Still searching for a throw to put over the bench, but in the meantime, a whimsical pillow does the trick.

What joy to have this incredible Santa totem made by artist, Rick Rowley. This is a gift from my husband and Santa stands proudly by the front door.

Front Hall

Once you enter the front door, you are in our foyer. This area is a favorite of mine where one can see so much of the historical architecture of this 114 year home.

Using these ties, garland is safely attached to the railing and burgundy velvet ribbon with long tails add an elegant touch. A Norfolk pine garland is draped over the antique mirror on the landing.

The unique petticoat table with a mirror below to check skirt hems, has its own greens and berries.

In the corner between the front hall and dining room, is a 7 foot tall artificial tree that holds all ornaments with an outdoor theme~hiking boots, owls, mittens, acorns, skiing bears, pinecones and more.

The Dining Room

I love the tablecloth I purchased from Studio McGee this year. It looks so homey in the dining room and works well with the color theme for Christmas.

With gilded fronds, the garland, and glittery pinecones adds just enough sparkle to the room. Burgundy ribbon goes well with the room’s rug and continues the theme from the front hall.

With a remote control, all 12 flameless candles light up. The gold tapered candlestick holders are a recent purchase and they work well here.

On the adjacent buffet, bottle brush trees in the dining room colors surround the silver tea/coffee service (recently polished by my husband).

The Living Room

During the holidays the living room gets the most activity than any other time of the year. It is the place where we put up our fresh Christmas tree, open our presents and hang our stockings. Here I use Blue velvet ribbon in abundance.

Snowy, wintery garland seems appropriate with the blue ribbon. Lights add twinkling ambiance at night. The same flameless tapers in silver candlesticks sit on either side of the deep and long mantel.

In a trifle bowl, is a collection of glass ornaments I purchased in Paris many years ago.

On the table behind the sofa, is one of my first holiday paintings which happens to have the blue tones of the room.

The Breakfast Room

Right off the kitchen, is the cozy breakfast room. We use this fireplace daily to take the chill off our drafty house. Moving into more of the brighter reds, I use faux garland, red berries and a plaid ribbon on the mantel.

Lighted trees flank each side of the fireplace and the wooden bead garland I made a few years ago (see post here). The Santa artwork is one we put up year after year. My favorite cordless lamps provide a nice light at night.

The Library

This is another room that gets used a lot during the chilly winter months. Inlaid wood mantel with rich deep garnet tiles surrounds the fireplace. It is the perfect setting for a morning cup of coffee. With blue painted walls, I select the blue velvet ribbon, a simple faux garland, and glitter trees that light up with a timer.

At night, flameless pillar candles in each cubby add to the warm and cozy ambiance.

The Family Room

With the family room being “pet central”, the holiday decor is a bit limited. Finn has taken over a substantial amount of space being the big fella he is, and the cat has free rein. The berry wreaths are on each window section and the white lighted trees are surviving Finn’s nibbling.

Outside Back Terrace

Our back terrace space is heavily used during the good weather months, as we entertain here frequently. It is always fun to decorate the outdoor stone fireplace and we repeat the design this year with reindeer ribbon, large pinecones and elk sheds.

The Hen House

This is the first year I add a bit of holiday decor to the hen house by hanging a fresh cedar garland with red velvet ribbon over the door.

I hope you enjoy our holiday home tour at Bella Terra. The last thing to do is to decorate our fresh Christmas tree with cherished family ornaments. This is not a designer tree, but a way to display years of collecting ornaments and memories. Right now the tree is up and the whole house smells like fresh evergreen. Christmas is less than 10 days away!
