Autumn in August~Fall Wreath Ideas and Inspiration

Today I am teaming up with my blogging friends to talk about autumn, so catch all their great ideas at the bottom of this post. Even though it’s a gazillion degrees here, I am reaching that point that I am ready for next season. Unfortunately our heat will last for at least another 60 to 90 days. But in daydreaming about crisp autumn days and the smell of the leaves changing, the first step in my fall decor is the entry to our home.

Find the Focal Point

What I love about fall decor is that it lasts from September through to November, and you can add or subtract things for Halloween and Thanksgiving. When planning my fall decor, the first item on the agenda is always the front door or entry to our home. The front door is the focal point and it reminds me of looking at a painting. Where is your eye drawn? Does the setting make sense? Do all the elements complement each other?

Maybe your front entry isn’t your front door, but gates to your property, or a long driveway from the street to your home. Where do you start your fall message? What is your focal point?

Wreath, Basket or Garland?

What do you use to create the focal point on your front door (or other)? I generally start with a wreath, but it could be a basket, garland or another item of interest. Today’s post is full of fall focal point ideas for your front door.

I don’t know about you, but I love taking pictures of other front doors, mailboxes, wreaths, you name it. So if you see me lurking down your street taking pictures, I’m not a stalker but someone who loves and appreciates beautiful front entrances.

This wreath in the photo above is my personal favorite. I love all the textures and colors and to me, it is the epitome of fall. I may try my hand at making this as I am ready to switch up my traditional front door fall wreath.

Considering all the Elements

Door size, shape and color are things to consider when decorating with fall decor. Is your wreath the right size or does it look puny in the space? Do the textures and color represent your fall vibe.

I love this use of pomegranates and magnolia leaves, but that ribbon tops it off.

Sweet yellow door

The raffia and grapevine wreath complement the yellow in the door.

Notice how the fruit on the wreath pick up the tones of the door color.

There is just enough golden tones in this wreath to enhance the brass door handle, lock and mail slot.

Growing up in Connecticut, bittersweet grew along the roadside. But we never see it here in Phoenix. I love how it looks against this pretty blue door.

Think outside the Box

How clever is this?! Certainly something I wouldn’t have thought of but it shows you that many different objects can be used for your fall focal point.

Using nature’s materials can provide color and texture for a beautiful fall wreath. To see how I made this wreath and another from gathering elements from nature, click here.

For the last two years, this is the general look of my front door/entrance each September.
