Decor Versatility of Fabric in Lieu of Cabinet Doors
Yesterday, I shared the skirted knee hole in our master bath and how I reorganized it. If you missed that post, you can see it here. Since I am in the mindset of updating and renovating our bathroom, I am so drawn to this European look of using fabric in lieu of cabinet doors. Not only does fabric allow versatility (you can change it seasonally), but fabric curtains can sweetly hide the cabinet contents in your kitchen, mud room, laundry, powder room, pantry and potting shed.
Where I currently have skirted cabinets
Currently there is also a skirted area in our butler’s pantry under the sink. Large vases and packets of paper placemats are hidden behind this taupe and cream leaf patterned fabric. To see more photos of our butler’s pantry, click here. I love this pantry and even though it is relatively small, it provides so much storage for my dinnerware.
Inside the well tower, on the first level, is my potting shed/gardening area. This large skirted area is actually beneath a tiled countertop, hence no cabinets. But the fabric hides paint cans, pots and containers, and bags of potting soil.
Inspiration from the Internet
There are so many beautiful examples of fabric skirted areas. I actually love the rings that are attached to the fabric on the rod below. This would be ideal to improve upon the curtain in our butler’s pantry.
How sweet is this for a pedestal sink? Yes, these sinks are pretty but lack storage.
Here’s another more tailored look to a sink skirt.
This sweet curtain adds to the romantic farmhouse feel of this bathroom.
Even with a tiny space, a curtain can work.
Don’t you just love this flower/potting room? Oh, to have a space like this!
The open shelves, hanging netted grocery bag and small refrigerator is all very European looking to me.
What a fun and spacious laundry room!
Nice to add a valence to the fabric skirt.
There are so many things I love about this~from the fabric lamp shade to the color of the cabinets.
Doesn’t this room just make you happy?
According to Southern Living, skirted sinks and cabinets are back in style in a big way. This is such a timeless look and can be used in so many applications.
Lastly, I will leave you with these two sweet ones. Do you have a skirted sink or cabinet? Do you have a favorite one from all the photos today?
Love this look but don’t have a space for it? Check this out.
In researching this post, I found this DIY where the homeowner added fabric to her cabinet doors to give the illusion of a skirted sink…which is brilliant. Plus the fabric doors opens to the kitchen sink area below. You must see this post from Kim at Exquisitely Unremarkable. It appears to be an easy DIY and what a transformation! You will find it here.
I hope you enjoy today’s post as I love looking at pictures that inspire me to do something unique and wonderful to our home.

Thank you for sharing this. What a great idea. I’d like to see behind all the curtains.
I love the look. Fabric makes such a statement.
Me too. You can really change up the look and feel with different fabrics.
I love this idea. Thanks for sharing.
