Saturday Meanderings
Happy Saturday, friends! It continues to be the most gorgeous Spring weather here. And everything is blooming and showing off their colorful blossoms and fruit. If only our weather could be like this year round, but then our population would triple. I am wrapping up this lovely week with another edition of Saturday Meanderings and so happy you are joining me today.
Melamine Place Settings
There are so many choices in melamine lately and after much debate (do I really need more dishes?) I purchased 2 sets. One from The Enchanted Home (above) which is a pretty blue hydrangea pattern and comes in a set of service for 4 (dinner plate, salad plate, bowl and a large serving platter and serving bowl)for $145.00. You can find the link here.
This resource also have melamine charger and perhaps I need those too?
Fortunately, I did order a second set of service for four, because when the set arrived from The Enchanted Home, I wish I had purchased 8 servings. But lo and behold, a few days later, this set of four arrived and I believe I will be able to use them interchangeably.
From Caillini Coastal, these Amalfi dinner and salad plates look like real china. They are a bit more substantial in thickness than the ones from The Enchanted Home (and more expensive), but I love both sets equally. You can find them here. Plus they send a pretty seashell as an additional treat when you open the box.
I don’t get any commission on recommending these melamine place settings ~I just want to share something I love. Most of the recommendations I make are for that reason. Occasionally I will get a small stipend if you link to a designated product that has a reward program for bloggers. But most of the time I am just excited about a good quality product and am happy to share the resource with you to make your life a bit easier.
Beauty in the Yard
Two years ago, my husband and I tackled the pruning and trimming of nearly all the trees and plants in the yard. We are now seeing the results of our labor because I believe this is the best our property has ever looked.
Our rose garden has been hit or miss over the years, but what a spectacular show now. And I could share all the stunning photos I have all day long. But here’s a few for you to enjoy. Most of our roses came from Home Depot.
To see more information on growing roses, click here. With a minimal amount of effort earlier this year, we are certainly enjoying the dividends.
Fruits and Vegetables
This year’s peach tree is chock a block full of fruit. Typically, the second week in May we are picking peaches, and they are looking healthy and well on their way to ripening.
We have two very old mulberry trees that produce the best fruit. The birds love them as evidenced by their purply poop everywhere. I must find a way to use these delicious berries. If anyone has a great recipe, please share.
Lemon Spaghetti
My husband and I typically do not eat a lot of pasta. Not that I don’t love it, but in an effort to cut calories we find ourselves making “pasta” using spiralized zucchini. However, every now and again one just has to have pasta. Here is a very quick and easy recipe that I will definitely make again. With lemons being freshly available now, it’s a good way to get your Vitamin C!
The preparation level is EASY and takes about 20 minutes total. See the recipe below.
Going to Bed at 9:39 p.m.
According to a post by Martha Stewart, a new study conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Serta Simmons Bedding, which surveyed 2,000 Americans, found that respondents who report getting excellent sleep hit the hay at exactly 9:39 p.m.
Apparently, those who get the best sleep go to bed prior to 10:00 p.m. So for the last week I am trying to be in bed by 9:39 p.m. What is hysterical is that I apparently do lots of tasks after I make the decision to go to bed and therefore, seem to turn off the lights closer to 11:00 p.m. So in order for me to be asleep by 9:39 p.m. I would really have to make the decision to go to bed closer to 6:00 p.m. Well, and that is not happening!
What time to you go to bed, or better yet, fall asleep?
A few months back I did do a post about the importance of sleep and you can see it here. Without a doubt, a good night’s sleep make a huge difference in life.
Well, before we part, I want to share a photo I took yesterday as the first sunflower is now in bloom. I happen to catch a bee in the picture too. Such a happy photo to start the weekend.
Again, I so appreciate all your support and checking in on Saturdays with me. April is nearly over and May is just around the corner. Have a wonderful day!

Hi Mary, I am usually in bed before 10pm (and I know you have seen it lol). I’m also a morning person so I think that really helps. I can’t wait to try your lemon pasta recipe and like Kim said I’ll probably try it with maybe spaghetti squash. Thanks for sharing!
Chas, so last night I made the lemon pasta with a combination of zucchini spirals and a bit of pasta. It is so delicious. I basically didn’t have enough zucchini so used the pasta as a supplement. And you are one of the most productive people I know so no surprise you are a morning person!
Great post! I especially like the Melamine. It will look so nice in your “new” pool house 🙂
Pasta is my go-to comfort food. Must try ASAP! Thanks.
Valerie, thank you for your sweet comment! Yes, the melamine will definitely go with the new colors in the pool house!
Mary,
That Lemon spaghetti sounds like something I need to try and yard is filled with so many amazing things. I’m addition those dishes, oh my. They look like fine china. Stunning! Great post.
Rachel, I, too, am surprised by the great quality of the melamine. Will definitely use it a lot this summer.
Happy Saturday Mary! I have always thought that Melamine plates are the prettiest. I have them for both summer deck dining and on my boat and love them. I really like the patterns you shared here. Your roses and peaches look amazing. And I am definitely going to try my hand at your lemon spaghetti. What a refreshing meal. I use zucchini for my pasta dishes as well. Just as good I think. 9:39 PM for bedtime is probably not going to work for me, but sounds great in theory.
Kim, I keep aiming for 9:39 pm, but have yet to make it. But it has forced me to pay more attention to my bedtime.
Oh! The Lemon pasta looks and sounds delicious!
And a sunflower…with a bee!!! Be still my heart
Last night I made the lemon pasta with a combination of zucchini spirals and pasta (didn’t have enough zucchini) and it was delicious!
Mary I love lemon anything! This looks absolutely delicious!! Happy Sunday!
Cindy, happy Sunday to you too! I’m with you~I love anything with lemons!
Pasta looks soo good!! I love the sunflower and the bee lol great pic
Happy Saturday to you and thanks for sharing!!
Oh I forgot those plates are beautiful
I love those plates! Everything you’re growing looks amazing! I have been trying to get to bed by about 10:30, which is much better than my former 11:30 or 12:00. I”m a nightowl by nature, but I do much better when I get up early, so I’ve been trying to get more sleep. I tend to sleep less than I used to, though. That pasta looks so good. Happy Saturday!
Pam, it makes such a difference when I have a decent night’s sleep. Our dogs are up early (our nearly 15-year old Beagle starts barking at 4:30 a.m.)so it helps when I get to bed earlier. And yes, try the lemon pasta dish. It’s is very good. Thanks for commenting~
